Hunting Gear Recalled After Injuries
.c The Associated Press - Dec. 19, 2001 - (See Press Release and Recall Notice Below)

WASHINGTON (AP) -  A Michigan company is recalling 25,000 climbing sticks and tree steps sold nationwide because the buckles can fail, possibly causing serious injury to hunters using them.

Game Tracker Inc., of Flushing, has received 16 reports of buckles failing, the Consumer Product Safety Commission announced Wednesday. Accidents caused the amputation of a piece of one hunter's finger and cuts, sprains and bruises suffered by five others, the commission said.

The Gorilla Ultralite Climbing Sticks involved in the recall are model number 3163 and have the serial number 040501, 050501 or 060801 printed on the main brace of the stick. They come three to a package, and are gray, with black fold-down foot pegs, and a black strap and buckle system.

The Strap-on Tree Steps being recalled are model numbers 3152 and 3153, with the serial number 2899 stamped on the side. The steps are metal, with a black strap, a metal J-hook and a black buckle.

The equipment was sold in hunting supply stores and catalogs from February 1999 through September 2001, for $7 to $100.

CPSC said consumers should immediately stop using the equipment. The products can be returned to the company for a free repair or replacement. Game Tracker can be reached at 1-800-241-4833, weekdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. EST.
